Dear community, Here are some quick details regarding the Dufour and the new staking model release! 🟡 Cover Traffic Cover Traffic is the new way to earn rewards. The cover traffic app has four components, which operate in the following sequence: - Netwatcher's task is to locate nodes on the network and create a list. - The Aggregator collects all node information from the Netwatchers and sends it to the database. - EconomicHandler applies the economic model and pushes the data to the queue. - Postman takes the queue and distributes a series of 1-hop messages to every node. The Cover Traffic distribution cycle occurs every 5-6 times per 24h. The minimum staking cap for Cover Traffic is 10,000 wxHOPR tokens with an NFT, or 30,000 without. Your node will start receiving cover traffic once you reach this threshold and have at least one payment channel open with a minimum amount of 1 wxHOPR. Your total stake is the sum of your Safe account balance and the balances of any opened outgoing payment channels. For example, if you have 9,998 wxHOPR in your Safe account and you have opened an outgoing channel with 2 wxHOPR, your total stake is 10,000 wxHOPR. 🟡 Staking The staking model has undergone significant changes compared to the Staking Seasons. What we recently launched is the original idea we initially planned for. By running a node, you have the ability to earn tokens by relaying data. The more tokens you stake, the more data your node will relay, and the more tokens you will earn. We have prepared some recommendations based on your stake size: ➡️ When a user has <= 75k HOPR tokens: you don't need to run several nodes because rewards are based on your stake alone. For example, if you decide to have 2 nodes with stakes of 40k & 35k, you will get the same rewards as you would from running 1 node with a 75k stake. ➡️ When a user has >75k HOPR tokens: the optimal reward strategy is to split your stake across multiple nodes with <75k HOPR in each. Additional HOPR staked in nodes above 75k will earn rewards, but at a significantly reduced rate. The Cover Traffic threshold was intentionally set to make the network more decentralized and to distribute rewards more fairly. This ensures that even node runners with a small stake have the opportunity to receive rewards. Currently, we are projecting a stable APR of 10-15%! 75,000 may seem a low threshold, but consider it like this: HOPR has a maximum total supply of 1 billion tokens. Even if we assume every token is in a 75k node, that would still mean a network of only 13,000 nodes. In reality, far fewer tokens will be staked. If we want to have a widely distributed decentralized network, we can't incentivize having large stakes in each node. 🟡 Waitlist Because we recently launched a major release, we want to monitor and ensure its smooth operation. For this reason, we have temporarily implemented a waitlist. As part of the onboarding process, every future node runner will need to complete the new waitlist form. The participant list is manually collected every Wednesday at 8 AM CEST, and the waitlist sheet is manually updated later on the same day. This means that if you fill out the waitlist form after 8 AM CEST, you will need to wait until the following Wednesday. Currently, we have only one NFT remaining, exclusively for our dedicated supporters: the Network Registry NFT! The NR NFT grants you earlier access to the network but doesn't provide any APY boost. With the NR NFT, you can stake with a minimum threshold of 10,000 wxHOPR, but you are free to stake any amount you prefer. For more details, please check the Staking section.
